The bat should be hold on your fingers, not deep in the palm of your hand. Holding the bat deep into the palm will hinder your wrist snap when hitting.
There are three main grips:
Box Grip -first knuckles of lower hand align with the second knuckles of top hand, Middle/Even/Aligned Knuckle Grip – align middle knuckles of both hands.
Split Grip – split the alignment difference between the previous two grips.
Each grip has its pros and cons and it depends on the level of comfort of each player and swing path.
The Box Grip might be suited best for a strong, long ball hitter. It might require more tilting of the shoulders to be able to get to contact palm up and palm down. Otherwise, the players might have less time in the pitch plane.
The Middle/Aligned Knuckle Grip offers a longer swing space and time in the pitch plane. It might allow a player to adjust better to pitch location and to hit more line drives.
The Split Grip is a compromise between the two. It does not mean that it is the best of both worlds. It depends on the player preferences and swing path.
No matter what grip you use, hands should be palm up and palm down at contact point with the ball.
